An off-duty FBI agent whose gun fired while he was doing a backflip on a nightclub dance floor has been charged with second-degree assault.

Chase Bishop, 29, turned himself in to sheriffs after the shocking incident left a man suffering gunshot injuries to his leg.

Bishop was dancing at the nightclub when the gun fell from his waistband holster onto the floor and fired on June 2, police said.

The FBI agent was charged by Denver District Attorney Beth McCann on Tuesday.

Additional charges could be filed based on the results of toxicology tests, which have not yet been received.

Booking documents do not indicate if Bishop has hired a lawyer, according to US reports.
