Florida killer put photo of wife’s dead body on Facebook

A husband who confessed to killing his wife then posting a picture of her blood-spattered body on Facebook has been charged with her murder.

Derek Medina, 31, told police he shot wife Jennifer, 26, during an argument at their home in Miami, Florida.

He gave himself up after a photograph appeared on his Facebook page showing his wife, in a black leotard, slumped on her back with her legs bent backwards and blood on her left arm and cheek. It was captioned “RIP Jennifer Alfonso” — his wife’s maiden name. In another post, also yesterday, he wrote: “I’m going to prison or death sentence for killing my wife ... Facebook people you will see me in the news.

“My wife was punching me and I am not going to stand any more with the abuse so I did what I did.” His 10-year-old daughter was at their home when police arrived. She was unharmed.

In a bizarre twist, one of six self-help books written by the confessed killer is about how he has saved marriages by improved communication.

Medina and his wife had been married since April last year, public records revealed. His father, also called Derek, said the pair had a rocky relationship and divorced after being wed for three years but then re-married.

Mr Medina said his son arrived at his home late yesterday morning and told him that he had killed Jennifer.

“He just said she picked up a knife on him and they had a big fight and he shot her,” said Mr Medina. He then drove his son to a Miami police station.

The picture was on Medina’s social media page for five hours before it was taken down yesterday afternoon.
