Footage emerges of Paris murder suspect as aspiring rapper in 2005

Aspiring rapper: Cherif Kouachi, who is on the run from police

One of the prime suspects of the Charlie Hebdo massacre in Paris is shown performing as an aspiring rapper in a video dating back nearly ten years.

The footage shows Cherif Kouachi - one of two brothers being hunted by police in northern France - during an appearance on French TV in around 2005.

The 32-year-old, who was brought up an orphan before being radicalised by an Imam in northern Paris, appeared in a documentary aimed at recruiting young Islamic extremists.

In a clip from the Pieces á Convictions video, Kouachi is shown in a baseball cap and sunglasses as he raps to the camera.

He was first arrested in 2005 as a suspected member of a group in Paris suspected of sending terrorist fighters to Iraq.

In 2008, he was sentenced to three years in prison, with 18 months suspended, for his association with the group.

Cherif and his brother Said Kouachi, 34, remained on the run on Thursday as armed police swarmed a rural area of the Aisne department after the pair were said to have robbed a petrol station.

The brothers were at the centre of a huge manhunt after 12 people were killed at the Paris office of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo on Wednesday.
