A prominent artist and her lawyer were found dead in a Mumbai sewer with their hands and feet bound.
Six people were arrested after the bodies of Indian artist Hema Upadhyay, 43, and Harish Bhambhani, 65, were discovered in a cardboard box.
The pair are believed to have been strangled.
The grisly discovery was reportedly made by a street cleaner who saw a leg protruding from a cardboard box in one of the city's drains.
Both victims are said to have been stripped to their underwear and their bodies had been wrapped in plastic. Mr Bhambhani had been badly beaten and his eyes were covered with tape.
One man has admitted a role in the double murder and police are investigating whether it may have been a "contract killing", according to The Indian Express.
Ms Upadhyay's estranged husband, Chintan Upadhyay, is said to have been questioned by police but has since been released without charge.
The pair have been locked in a bitter divorce row since 2010, with Ms Upadhyay claiming she was the victim of harassment in 2013 when she alleged that her husband had painted graphic pictures of women on the ceilings of their home. Represented by Mr Bhambhani, Ms Upadhyay ulitimately lost the case.
The killings have shocked India's art community. The Vadehra Art Gallery, which represented Ms Upadhyay, said they had lost "one of the most talented Indian artists, and a dear and loving friend”.
Ms Upadhyay was first reported missing by her domestic servant after she failed to return home on Friday night and her body was found on Sunday.
