A Jewish teacher at a school in Marseille, France, has been stabbed, as the country remains on high alert following the Paris terror attacks.

The victim, said to be a history teacher, was attacked by three people shouting anti-Semitic abuse, according to reports.

He is not thought to be in a life-threatening condition after the attack at about 8pm local time, on Wednesday.

Police spokesman Laurent Nunez said officers were combing the area for clues after the assault.

The trio fled after stabbing the teacher in the arm and leg.

One of the attackers was said to have been wearing an Islamic State t-shirt.

Marseilles prosecutor Brice Robin told Reuters "The three people insulted, threatened and then stabbed their victim in the arm and leg. They were interrupted by the arrival of a car and fled."
