JK Rowling’s Twitter campaign against Donald Trump continued when she mocked him by quoting former US President George Washington.

She was responding to a bizarre short video clip posted by Mr Trump on Sunday, of him wrestling a person with a CNN logo for a head.

Trump was highlighting his distaste for ‘fake news’ by using the hashtag “#FraudNewsCNN”.

The clip was an edited version of Mr Trump's 2007 appearance at a WWE wrestling match, in which he 'clothes-lined' WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.

Harry Potter author Ms Rowling responded to the tweet by posting: “To persevere in one's duty, and be silent, is the best answer to calumny.”

Calumny is defined as "the making of false and defamatory statements about someone in order to damage their reputation; slander" – something Ms Rowling appeared to use to allude to fake news.

Mr Trump’s post came after he launched a Twitter tirade against television hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, hurling a series of insults against the pair including calling the TV hosts “pyscho” and “crazy”.

He launched the attack on Thursday after hearing the pair had criticised him on MSNBC's politically-focused breakfast show Morning Joe.

But people reacted furiously on social media, including Ms Rowling, who quoted Abraham Lincoln as she mocked Mr Trump.
