Times Square crash: Donald Trump's ex-wife Marla Maples sparks outrage after posing for selfies at scene

Donald Trump’s ex-wife Marla Maples has sparked outrage after posing for selfies at the scene of a crash in Times Square where a teenager was killed and score of people were injured.

The 53-year-old was reportedly at a nearby reading of a friend’s play when a man ploughed his car into pedestrians in New York on Thursday, killing an 18-year-old woman and injuring a further 22 people.

Ms Maples rushed to the scene, which was taped off by emergency services, posting a series of videos and selfies from her Snapchat and Instagram accounts.

The American actress provoked an angry reaction on social media, with one user saying she was “appalled” by her reaction.

Elizabeth West sarcastically posted on Twitter: “Another class act, Marla Maples snapping selfies at the scene of that horrific crash in Times Square.”

Olga V said: “As a mother, I'm appalled you took smiley selfies at the very spot where a girl lost her life. You are too old to be this stupid! What is wrong with you?”

Another said: “You’re a mother. A teenager died within feet of where you were compelled to take selfies. What a cold 'heart' you have. What if that happened to Tiffany?”

A 26-year-old man, named by police as Richard Rojas from the Bronx district, was detained at the scene of the crash.

The US Navy veteran has been charged with second-degree murder, aggravated vehicular homicide and multiple counts of attempted murder.

He had been arrested twice for drink driving.

In one clip, Ms Maples said: “I’m at Times Square now. I’m going to see if there’s anything that can be done.

Filming from near the police cordon she adds: “Looks like all the rescue workers are here and the governor is on his way.

“Here at Times Square at the scene of this horrific crash. All the fire and rescue teams are out. Everyone’s working hard.”

Ms Maples videos and pictures from Times Square appear to have since been deleted from her Instagram account.

She captioned the videos with “sending out so much love to everyone”.
