A Qantas flight was forced to return to the terminal after a passenger refused to set his tablet to airplane mode.

The airline temporarily grounded flight QF2133 from the Australian capital Canberra to Melbourne on Friday night.

It confirmed that a passenger "did not follow instructions with regards to electronic devices on flights".

The passenger, a well-known Australian businessman according to local radio station 3AW, caused the flight to be delayed by just over an hour.

Qantas said the safety of its passengers was a top priority.

The news follows an incident last week, in which a Qatar Airways flight was forced to land after a woman realised her husband had been unfaithful while in the air.

The family was kicked off in Chennai, in India, 5,000 miles away from their destination in Bali.
