Ray Connor: Tributes to British man killed in 30ft plunge while working on billionaire Ineos founder's yacht

Ray Connor, 23, is believed to have plunged 30 feet through a plastic roof

Tributes were today paid to a British man working on billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s yacht after he reportedly fell to his death during a session of the free-running sport parkour.

Ray Connor, 23, is believed to have plunged 30 feet through a plastic roof after misjudging a jump in Imperia, a town on the Italian Riviera where the Hampshire 2 superyacht had docked.

His body was found in the early hours yesterday after crew members reported him missing when he failed to return to the boat.

Sir Jim, who founded chemical giant Ineos, was not on board at the time of the tragedy.

Mr Connor, from the Shetland Isles, was a parkour enthusiast, a sport developed from military training that involves climbing, jumping and vaulting over obstacles.

Friend Shane Talukder paid tribute on Facebook, saying: “Ray was the nicest soul and greatest friend ever.”

On Monday, Mr Connor sent his sister selfies showing him on the roof of a building at the port’s maritime museum, the Sun reported.

A police spokesman in Imperia said: “We are investigating the death of a 23-year-old British man who was found at the maritime museum.”

A spokesman for Sir Jim said: “Sir Jim is deeply shocked and saddened by the news, he offers his personal condolences and is providing assistance to the family of the deceased.”
