A 10-year-old boy led police on a 100mph car chase ending in a crash on the side of the road.

Police said it was “so lucky” that nothing tragic happened during the 45-mile pursuit in Ohio on Thursday morning.

The boy was reported missing by his father at just after 9am.

He is accused of taking the family car and speeding off throughWestlake, near the city of Cleveland.

Police used a rolling roadblock to try and slow the driver down but the driver continued to flee, accelerating along a ditch to get away from the highway.

After the car crashed, video footage shows state troopers frantically shouting orders to break the window.

The boy was taken into custody and faces charges of wilfully fleeing and eluding officers.
