Five brothers fighting for a Syrian rebel group pose for a picture in the northern city of Aleppo.

They said their brigade, called Martyr Al-Abbas, operated under the Free Syrian Army, and was established in memory of a sixth brother, Abbas Sheikh Yasine, who died in a battle against forces of President Assad’s regime.

Before the war one brother was a decorator, another worked in a restaurant — and the three others were still in school.

Activists said today that rebels attacked a village in the east, killing dozens of Shia, mostly pro-Assad fighters.

A government official denounced the attack at Hatla as a “massacre” of civilians.
