Time’s Up campaign president Lisa Borders has resigned.

The gender equality initiative’s CEO said she was stepping aside “with deep regret” due to family concerns.

Chief Operating Officer for the campaign Rebecca Goldman will serve as interim CEO.

Borders, 61, was named head of the last year after it was formed in response to sexual misconduct allegations in Hollywood.

“We know that it is the right decision for Lisa as well as the organisation,” the group said in a statement.

“We remain steadfast in our mission to create safe, fair and dignified work for women of all kinds.”

The organisation was set up in January 2018 after allegations were levelled against powerful men in the entertainment industry including Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey.

News of Border’s departure came on the same day Weinstein's sexual assault trial in New York City was delayed until June 3.

In December, Weinstein lost a hard-fought bid to get the case against him thrown out.

The 66-year-old producer is charged with raping an unidentified acquaintance in 2013 and performing a forcible sex act on a different woman in 2006.

He denies all allegations of non-consensual sex.
