Trayvon Martin ‘was murdered in cold blood’

The mother of a black teenager whose killing by a neighbourhood watch volunteer sparked a race row in the US said she believed he was “murdered in cold blood”.

Sybrina Fulton, mother of Trayvon Martin, 17, retracted a remark that his shooting by George Zimmerman was an “accident”.

She said: “In no way did I mean the shooting was an accident. We believe George Zimmerman stalked my son and murdered him in cold blood. The ‘accident’ I was referring to was that [he] and my son ever crossed paths.”

Zimmerman, 28, appeared in court in Florida yesterday accused of second-degree murder. His lawyer said he will plead not guilty.
