Man in hospital after wedding crash
A 45-year-old man remains in hospital with serious injuries after a crash between a car and a horse-drawn carriage carrying a wedding party.
The collision happened at around 2.10pm on Saturday on the A710 Dumfries to New Abbey road near the entrance to Mabie House Hotel, Dumfries and Galloway.
The carriage was carrying bride Donna Pennycuik and her father Lawrence to the hotel for the ceremony.
It was being "driven" by Simon Millar, who had his daughter Hannah on board with him, when it collided with a blue/grey Honda CRV.
All four people on board were taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary (DGRI) for treatment.
The 29-year-old bride, her father and Mr Millar's 18-year-old daughter were released from hospital after treatment to minor injuries and returned to the wedding. Mr Millar remains in DGRI in a serious but stable condition, Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary said.
The group on board the carriage are all from the Dumfries area. The driver of the car was not injured.
A force spokesman said: "We believe the wedding went ahead, but the police inquiry is focusing on the crash."
A local vet attended the collision and treated the horses for minor injuries, the spokesman added.
The road was closed and diversions put in place while the cause of the crash was investigated.
