England bowl after delayed start

England chose to bowl as the final NatWest Series match against Australia started at Old Trafford

It was all change for Australia as the fifth and final NatWest Series match against England was at last set to get under way after a delayed start at Old Trafford.

A 32-overs-per-side day-night contest was re-scheduled to start at 5.30pm, three-and-a-half hours late after overnight and morning rain.

For the tourists, 3-0 down already and needing victory here to avoid losing to England at every opportunity this summer, alterations were inevitable to their so far unsuccessful side - thanks to Shane Watson and Brett Lee's calf injuries.

They brought Steve Smith in as a middle-order batsman, and were expected to push wicketkeeper Matthew Wade up to open in place of Watson.

Fast bowler Lee was replaced by slow left-armer Xavier Doherty. Under still cloudy skies, England chose to bowl first.

They named off-spinner James Tredwell instead of seamer Tim Bresnan, who has a sore elbow.
