Ennis headlines Anniversary Games

Jessica Ennis will return to the scene of her gold-medal success in July
16 April 2013

Jessica Ennis heads the trio of gold medal winners from London 2012's 'Super Saturday' who will compete at the Anniversary Games at the Olympic Stadium on July 26-28.

The IAAF Diamond League event will see Ennis double up in the 100m hurdles and long jump, Mo Farah run in the 3,000m and Greg Rutherford appear in the long jump.

All five British medal winners from the Olympics - Christine Ohuruogu and Robbie Grabarz complete the quintet - will participate in the competition.

Jonnie Peacock, Richard Whitehead, Mickey Bushell and Josie Pearson are among 14 of the 16 Paralympic medallists to have been confirmed for the IPC International Challenge on the Sunday.

"I have amazing memories of competing in the Olympic Stadium last year and it will be good to step out on that track again in front of a British crowd," said Ennis, who won heptathlon gold at last year's Games.

"I'll never forget the noise the crowd made when I competed last August and know that the draw of the stadium and the great line-up of athletes will fill the stands and make it another incredible occasion.

"I am training hard and am getting excited about the prospect of getting out there and competing again this summer."

UK Athletics chairman Ed Warner, who expects all three days to sell out "very quickly" due to the high number of registrations for pre-sale tickets, is hoping to generate the feelgood factor of London 2012.

"The athletes are hugely excited about competing in front of a big crowd of British athletics fans again," Warner said. "It was vital to get the three of them involved and the lure of recreating last year's Games was very appealing to them.

"Like all great sportsmen and women they feed off the crowd and like last year we expect the crowds to be quite sensational."
