New Spurs deal for Friedel

Brad Friedel has signed a new contract with Tottenham until 2014
26 December 2012

Veteran Tottenham goalkeeper Brad Friedel has signed a new deal with the club, keeping him at White Hart Lane until the end of the 2013/14 season.

Spurs announced that the American had signed the contract on their official website www.tottenhamhotspur.com, with the news meaning Friedel, now 41, will be 43 when the deal expires.

The Premier League's oldest player, Friedel is the only man in the history of the division to make in excess of 300 consecutive starts.

His new contract comes at a time when he has lost his place as Spurs' number one, with summer signing Hugo Lloris having replaced him as manager Andre Villas-Boas' first choice.

Friedel came to England in 1997 with Liverpool, but moved to Blackburn three years later after failing to make an impression at Anfield and made in excess of 300 appearances for Rovers.

Aston Villa bought him for £2.5million in 2008 and the Spurs goalkeeper stayed with them for three seasons, before heading to Tottenham last year.

He also won 82 caps for the United States.
