Spurs to fight to keep Sherwood

Tim Sherwood is favourite to become the new Blackburn manager
29 September 2012

Tottenham will fight hard to keep hold of Tim Sherwood amid Blackburn's interest in making him their new manager, Press Association Sport understands.

Steve Kean's beleaguered 21-month reign as Blackburn boss came to an end on Friday night when he resigned, claiming the Rovers board had made his position "untenable".

It is understood that Blackburn have now made an approach to Tottenham about the possibility of Sherwood becoming their new boss. But Spurs are thought to be reluctant to let Sherwood go, particularly as he has recently signed a new contract with the north London club.

The 43-year-old has been part of the coaching staff at Spurs since 2008, and is currently involved in the youth set up at White Hart Lane in his role as technical co-ordinator.

Sherwood captained Blackburn to the Premier League title in 1995 and played almost 250 times for the Lancashire club during a golden era at Ewood Park.

It had been reported that Sherwood was being considered as a potential candidate to become technical director at Spurs, but Press Association Sport understands the former England midfielder has never been in the running for the position.
