Billie Eilish hit out at online trolls who branded her a “sellout” for wearing “feminine” clothing.

The singer, 21, took to her Instagram Story over the weekend to address commentary she’d seen about her clothes on social media.

Reflecting on how her fashion choices were criticised at the beginning of her career, she said in a since-expired Instagram Story: “I spent the first 5 years of my career getting absolutely OBLITERATED by you fools for being boyish and dressing how I did & constantly being told I’d be hotter if I acted like a woman.”

In the post, which has been shared on Twitter, Eilish explained that she’s exploring different styles as she evolves personally and professionally, but whatever she does sets trolls off.

She shared: “And now when I feel comfortable to wear anything remotely feminine or fitting, I CHANGED and am a sellout…and ‘What happened to her. Omg it’s not the same Billie, she’s just like the rest blah, blah.’”

The Grammy Award winning star went on to brand trolls “true idiots” and “bozos” as she implored her fans to just “let women exist”.

In a subsequent post, Eilish added: “FUN FACT! Did you know that women are multifaceted!!!!!??? shocking right?? Believe it or not women could be interested in multiple things.”

Then in another follow-up post, she penned: “Also that femininity does not equal weakness???!!!! Omg?! insane right? Who knew??

“And also totally unheard of and insane to want to express yourself differently at different times.”

Eilish then rounded off her social media rant by branding online trolls “women hating a** weirdos”.

The music star’s comments come following news that she split from boyfriend Jesse Rutherford, 31, after seven months of dating.

The pair were last seen in public together at this year’s Coachella music festival in Indio, California in April while Eilish notably attended the 2023 Met Gala solo.

A representative for the Grammy Award winner confirmed their split to Page Six earlier this month.

They told the outlet: “We can confirm Billie and Jesse did split amicably and remain good friends.”
