Hollywood couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are leaving Los Angeles to move to hurricane-ravaged New Orleans.

It is believed the couple's move was linked to a desire to raise awareness about the Hurricane Katrina-devastated Gulf Coast region.

The pair have bought a six-bedroom, five-bathroom house in the city's French quarter.

The £1.75 million property could not be more different from their sprawling home in acres of land in the Hollywood Hills.

Situated in a row of houses packed tightly together, the three-storey, 1830s building has chandeliers, a spiral staircase, a private courtyard and a guest house.

The couple are said to have moved for more privacy and have said they would like their children Maddox, five, Zahara, two, and seven-month-old Shiloh to be educated there.

Speaking at the Golden Globe awards this week, Jolie said: "We love it. The kids are going to go to school there. We're really looking forward to it."
