The US pop star posted a lengthy account of the run-in, which left her feeling ‘hurt’ and like a ‘piece of meat’, on her Twitter account on Wednesday.

While out getting food with rapper boyfriend Mac Miller, Grande says the couple were stopped by a young man.

“A young boy followed us to the car to tell Mac that he’s a big fan,” she wrote. “He was loud and excited and by the time M was seated in the drivers seat he was literally almost in the car with us.

“I thought all this was cute and exciting until he said “Ariana is sexy as hell man I see you, I see you hitting that.””

The pop star went on to say that the fan’s choice of words left her feeling humiliated and objectified.

“I’ve felt really quiet and hurt since that moment. Things like [this] happen all the time and are the kinds of moments that contribute to women’s sense of fear and inadequacy,” she wrote.

“I am not a piece of meat that a man gets to utilize for his pleasure. I’m an adult human being in a relationship with a man who treats me with love and respect.”

Grande went on to say that she felt upset by the fact that “so many young people” use similar terminology with “such ease”.

“We need to talk about these moments openly because they are harmful and they live on inside us as shame."

After posting her story, Grande received a number of tweets suggesting that she shouldn’t dress provocatively in her music videos if she didn't want to be objectified.

“Expressing sexuality in art is not an invitation for disrespect !!! just like wearing a short skirt is not asking for assault,” the singer added.

“Women's choice. our bodies, our clothing, our music, our personalities..... sexy, flirty, fun. it is not. an open. invitation.”

Grande finished by saying: “You are literally saying that if we look a certain way, we are yours to take. But we are not !!! It's our right to express ourselves.”
