Matthew Knowles has announced that he has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

The 67-year-old, who is the father of Beyoncé and her younger sibling Solange, is set to detail his diagnosis in an interview that will air in today’s episode of Good Morning America.

The show released a teaser for the chat, which sees host Michael Strahan asking Knowles how it was to tell him family the news.

Shortly after the trailer was released, Knowles tweeted a teaser picture.

Male breast cancer is rare and in the UK, just 390 men a year are diagnosed with it.

Knowles was married to Beyoncé and Solange’s mother, Tina, for 31 years before she filed for divorce in 2009, shortly it was revealed that Knowles had fathered a child with another woman.

Seven months before the divorce was finalised, the Halo superstar ended her professional relationship with her father, who had managed both her solo career and Destiny’s Child.

Addressing her decision to stop working with her dad, Beyoncé later told Oprah Winfrey about the difficulties it entailed.

“We had our issues,” she admitted. “I'd say ‘No’ to something, and he'd book it anyway.

“Then I'd have to do it because I'd look bad [if I didn't].

“We would fight sometimes, and it took about two years, to when I was 20, for him to realise, ‘Oh, she is an adult now, and if she doesn't want to do something, I can't make her do it.’”
