Bruce Forsyth’s daughter has backed her father's angry fans after Sky’s Adam Boulton called his death “inconsequential.”

Debbie Matthews waded into the social media row on Tuesday after Boulton complained about the BBC’s coverage of the TV entertainer’s death on Friday.

The pundit faced a Twitter backlash after writing: “Sorry BBC Bruce Forsyth dying at 89 is not a lead news item.”

Matthews appeared to endorse a number of outraged replies by ‘liking’ them on Twitter, including one which slammed Boulton for his “insensitivity”.

“If your father happened to be Bruce Forsyth would you be tweeting that? No. show some respect to the guy’s family. I guess empathy is a gift,” read one of the tweets.

She also ‘liked’ a tweet which described Boulton’s comment as “misjudged” and “mean.”

Piers Morgan even hit out at Boulton’s comments, writing: “Brucie entertained this country for 70 years. His death is not 'inconsequential'... he touched millions of lives.”

The Television legend passed away “peacefully at home” last Friday at the age of 89, following months of ill health.

His manager Ian Wilson broke the devastating news, telling fans that Forsyth retained a "twinkle in his eye".

In a statement he said: "It is with great sadness that the Forsyth family announce that Sir Bruce passed away this afternoon, peacefully at his home surrounded by his wife Wilnelia and all his children.

"A couple of weeks ago, a friend visited him and asked him what he had been doing these last 18 months.

"With a twinkle in his eye, he responded 'I've been very, very busy... being ill!'"
