Charli XCX stole the show at the MTV Movie Awards, performing with a giant inflatable guitar after arriving on the red carpet wearing a trench coat with very little underneath.

The singer, 22, switched into a zebra-print catsuit on stage as she sang Famous and Drop That Kitty at the ceremony in Los Angeles.

Love story The Fault In Our Stars was the evening’s big winner — actress Shailene Woodley took the trailblazer award and the best female performance gong while she and co-star Ansel Elgort won best kiss.

The award for best male performance went to Bradley Cooper for American Sniper, while Robert Downey Jr was presented the generation award by Scarlett Johansson and their fellow co-stars from Avengers: Age Of UItron. He told the audience: “Since the birth of MTV I have grown up, struggled, I’ve succeeded, I’ve failed, partied away too much, squandered, resisted, repented, begged for second chances and clawed my way to the top. I have tried to live honourably and never forget my love of the game or my friends. If a man is judged by the company he keeps I must be doing something right because look who I’m rolling with.” Cara Delevingne was also at the ceremony, which featured a clip from her new film Paper Towns.
