Cheryl has dropped a subtle hint that Liam Payne may have been the one to call time on their two and a half year relationship.

Opening up on the 2018 split in a new interview, the former Girls Aloud star seemed to challenge speculation that she had been the one to prompt the break-up.

“Who said it was me?” she told The Telegraph’s Stella magazine.

The singer went on to reveal that she was “okay” about the break-up, as it is her “responsibility” to “make the best of everything” for the couple’s two-year-old son Bear.

“It is what it is, and I’m okay about it,” she said. “When you have a baby, you are not consumed with just thinking about yourself.

“It’s your responsibility to keep things settled and happy, so you make the best of everything. And we have.”

Cheryl described her ex-boyfriend as “a great dad” who is “much softer than [her]” when it comes to parenting.

“I’m the strict one; Liam isn’t. I’ll be the one saying, ‘Just one square of chocolate,’ but Bear is so good,” she said.

The Greatest Dancer judge went on to reveal that she would consider using “other routes” to have more children in the future.

“I’ve got a friend who has had two children using donors. Not everything has to be conventional,” she told the magazine.

“You can spend ages looking for the right man, waiting for the perfect time to get pregnant, then the right man might turn out to be the wrong man.

“There are definitely other routes I would consider.”

Cheryl and Payne announced that they had decided to part ways last July, breaking the news on Twitter with a pair of near-identical statements.

“We are sad to announce that we are going our separate ways,” she wrote. “It’s been a tough decision for us to make. We still have so much love for each other as a family.

“Bear is our world and we ask that you respect his privacy as we navigate our way through this together.”

The former couple are thought to have remained on good terms, with Cheryl recently telling the Daily Mail that there is “no animosity whatsoever” between them.

“We are learning all the time,” she said. “And it’s good, it’s healthy.

“We’re just like any other couple that have gone through this, but we have a few more eyes watching us… Just a few.”

Former One Direction star Payne was subsequently linked to Naomi Campbell, but the pair are thought to have recently called off their romance, with a source telling The Sun that the supermodel had “got a bit bored.”
