Dua Lipa has revealed she draws on memories of “emotionally manipulative” ex-boyfriends for musical inspiration.

The double Brit Award winning singer said some of her biggest hits have been inspired by troublesome exes.

Speaking to Rolling Stone she said: “I dated this guy who literally would never eat a single vegetable.

“I was like, ‘This is terrible. You eat like a five-year-old. I’m f****** out.’”

Lipa revealed that her hit single Hotter Than Hell was the product of a “tough breakup”.

Speaking about penning the track she said: “I was going through a tough breakup. Someone who made me feel like I wasn't good enough. But when I wrote this song, I wanted it to seem like he couldn't get enough of me.

“The song was good, but the chorus wasn’t quite there. We were like, ‘Let's scrap it’.”

She continued: “And I was scrolling through Tumblr, and I see the words Hotter than Hell in red on a black background. And I go, ‘That’s cool!’ What if he thought I was hotter than hell, and I just didn’t want him?”

Lipa was crowned Best British Female at last week’s Brit Awards which also saw her pick up the gong for British Breakthrough.

The New Rules singer is now taking on The Greatest Showman soundtrack in a bid to claim the UK number one album with her self-titled debut this week.

The soundtrack has dominated the top spot for seven weeks, but Lipa is hot on its tails after jumping up from third to second spot in the midweek chart.
