Duncan Bannatyne was embroiled in a Twitter spat with a 12-year-old after the young boy asked the businessman for advice.

Bannatyne, 66, accused Rocco Rose of being “rude” and demanding in his approach for help.

The school boy tweeted: “@duncanbannatyne Hey I asked you for a idea for another business plan of what I can do,I took up buying and selling stuff online thankyou!”

But the former Dragon hit back at the tweet, and told Rocco that he had “ignored” his question.

Bannatyne replied: “@roccorose_rose I know you did & I ignored you. Who do you think you are?”

He continued: “This tweet is rude as it demands I should have answered previous tweet.”

Bannatyne appeared to take aim at Rocco's use of the word "hey" and the fact he is a schoolboy.

After one Twitter user hit back saying the tweet wasn't rude, just badly phrased, Bannatyne replied: "Nope it is a "kid" demanding advice & not for the first time I can't answer all tweets."

Clearly shocked by the response, Rocco replied: “@duncanbannatyne A young boy wishing to grow up like you a entrepreneur I look up to you.

“@duncanbannatyne I'm sorry if I offended you in anyway I just want to be like you.

Rocco told the Mail Online that Bannatyne’s response left him upset.

“For the person I have been admiring all my life to send me that reply is really upsetting,” he said. “I still admire and look up to him but I can’t believe he replied like that.”

Rocco's father Jacob Rose told the publication: “I was so angry he had been that rude because Rocco really looks up to him. Looking at Duncan Bannatyne and everything he has, he doesn’t need to be like that to people who admire him.”

A spokesman for the businessman told Standard Online: “Duncan gets lots of business ideas via Twitter and can’t respond to them all.”
