Ed Sheeran has announced that he will kick off a European tour in March following the release of his brand new album.

The British pop star, who spent last year on hiatus, is set to hit the road sooner than expected with forthcoming record Divide.

Revealing the news during a live Facebook chat with MTV, the 25-year-old said that he was already in the process of lining up a series of live dates.

“March,” he said. “Pretty soon after the album. I don’t know when we’re coming with dates but I know we’re coming with dates soon. I definitely know it starts in March, in Europe.”

Sheeran went on to say that he preferred playing big stadium concerts to smaller, intimate pub gigs.

“Wembley Stadium is the most fun I’ve ever had on stage. I just enjoy the bigger gigs.”

The singer/songwriter is still yet to comment on whether or not he is going to be announced as one of the headliners for this year’s Glastonbury festival.

Sheeran is expected to release his album in just a few weeks, having been forced to push it back due to the US Presidential elections.

Earlier this week he told Zane Lowe on Beats 1: “The plan was to come in September and then the album was meant to come in November but the week the album was coming out was the week the presidential elections that was just a s*** storm of media and I was, like, obviously if I come out with a record then no one’s going to care.

“Then the week after Bruno [Mars] came out, the week after The Weeknd came out and I was like…," he said.

The singer went on to say that releasing the record in 2017 feels like the best thing to do as there is no one to compete against.

“It feels like a clean start this year though, like any time I've come out there’s always been, like another person,” he said.

His new album ÷ (Divide) will drop on March 3.
