For Your Pies Only: Sean Connery takes a walk with larger than life security team

Who knew 007 would need this much protection? Sir Sean Connery, who starred in seven James Bond films, was spotted with three substantial bodyguards as he went for a stroll in New York. The 83-year-old — who looked trim despite recent rumours of ill-health — is there to cheer on fellow Scot Andy Murray who is defending his US Open tennis title.

Fellow actor Michael Caine, who has starred alongside Connery on numerous occasions, was recently quoted suggesting that the former Bond star was suffering from Alzheimer’s.

Caine was quoted in German newspaper Bild am Sonntag saying that Connery was “no longer in full control of his senses” and that “one must have serious concerns for him”.

The actor later denied these claims as “bulls**t”, calling The Daily Record to insist that he’d been misquoted.

"It's completely preposterous, bulls**t," Caine said. "This stuff about Alzheimer's is just nonsense."

"I haven't seen Sean for a couple of years, but my wife and I spoke to him on the phone on his birthday this week and he was very well.

"He was fine, in complete control of his senses and his usual self. I have no idea where they are getting this stuff from. I know Sean was quite ill a year or so ago. But he is much better now and it was never anything to do with his mental state," he added.
