Match of the Day has made sure Gary Lineker won’t forget his promise of presenting the football show in his underwear.

Lineker, 55, vowed to strip off to present the first episode of the new series if his beloved Leicester City topped the Premier league.

The official Match of the Day Twitter appeared to confirm that Lineker won’t go back on his word and posted a picture of a pair of white Y-fronts hanging underneath the moniker “Lineker” alongside two suits for Alan Shearer and Ian Wright.

The shot was captioned: “Are you ready for the return of #MOTD on Saturday night on @BBCOne at 10.30pm?”

Lineker also appeared to confirm that he will be sticking to his vow after uploading a picture of himself lifting weights alongside the caption: "Prep #MOTD #pants #gym #thatprotein."

The former England footballer made the promise in December, telling his Twitter followers: "If Leicester win the @premierleague I'll do the first MOTD of next season in just my undies."

But in an interview with Standard Online in April, the TV presenter said he regretted posting the tweet.

“I’m aware of what I said but I categorically knew when I said it that there was no chance of Leicester winning the league – but that seems to have changed a little bit,” he said.

“I don’t think I’ll be able to wriggle out of it…if that’s the right word to describe it. It will obviously be very embarrassing.”

Walkers Crisps mocked Lineker and created a Countdown to Kit Off digital poster of the presenter in his underwear.

His ex Danielle Bux also took the opportunity to mock her former partner and tweeted a mocked up picture of Lineker in a pair of white pants.

"Hope they're whiter than white Links #LeicesterCity," she teased.
