George Ezra lands his first UK number one single for Shotgun: ‘I never thought this would happen’

George Ezra has landed his first UK number one single for Shotgun, admitting he “never thought this would happen.”

The 25-year-old, who first landed in the industry in 2013, bagged the number one spot following the release of Shotgun, taken from his second album Staying at Tamara’s.

Ezra has previously come close, hitting the top three in 2013 with Budapest and Paradise.

Celebrating the news, Ezra told OfficialCharts.com: “I never thought that this would happen.

“The thing that’s most amazing about it is the fact that all of you out there are sharing the song and playing it loud and enjoying it with your summer, which is exactly what I wanted. I can’t thank you enough.”

The single which lead took the lead with 6,500 units knocked last week’s chart topper Solo by Clean Bandit ft. Demi Lovato to the number two spot.

Taking the number three position was Anne-Marie’s pop track 2002 which pulled slightly ahead of Jess Glynne’s I’ll Be There and XXXTentacion’s Sad!

Also making an appearance in the top 10 was 5 Second of Summer’s Youngblood and Jonas Blue’s Rise ft. Jack and Jack.

Cheat Codes and Little Mix bagged the week’s highest new entry with Only You, which entered the chart at number 32.
