Harry Styles fans banned from buying kiwis in ASDA after stage slip

Harry Styles fans were banned from buying kiwis at a branch of ASDA after the singer was pelted with the fruit at a concert in London.

Styles, 23, was performing his single Kiwi at Hammersmith Apollo when he lost his footing and nearly fell to the floor after slipping on the pulp.

Speaking about the incident on Nick Grimshaw’s Radio One Breakfast Show he joked that he was thankful he hasn’t been “hit straight on with a kiwi yet”.

But a branch of the supermarket chain in Hulme, Manchester decided to take action to prevent a frightful fruit induced injury by checking the ID of anyone making a kiwi purchase that looked under the age of 25.

An ASDA spokesperson said: “We know our customers love Harry Styles and we feel it’s our duty to protect a fellow Mancunian from any ‘bad kiwis’ amongst us.

“We’d hate to see a repeat of the mishap this evening, so to avoid any slippery situations, we feel this is a necessary measure.”

Styles was taken by surprise after suffering the embarrassing slip on stage earlier this week which he styled out with a dance.

Speaking to the 5,000 strong crowd he said: “You may have seen me fall earlier during this song. It appeared to be a kiwi.

“That was the culprit, some green seedy mush. Look there's another – this could end up being a problem.”

His London dates also saw him halt a performance midway through after spotting a concertgoer struggling in the crowd after suffering a panic attack.

His latest tour is in support of his self-titled debut solo album which topped the charts on its release in May.
