Love Island star Sherif Lanre could be ready to jet off on holiday after being removed from the villa.

ITV yesterday confirmed that the 20-year-old had “mutually agreed” with producers to leave the show after “breaking the villa rules.”

A spokesperson said: “After breaking the villa rules Sherif had conversations with the producers and it was mutually agreed that he would leave the Love Island villa.”

“In a case of poor judgement, I broke the villa rules and as a result agreed with the producers that it was best for me to leave the villa,” Sherif said in a statement.

“I regret that I didn’t conduct myself in the right way and, as a 20 year old guy, it’s something I know I will take on board and learn from. I really enjoyed my time in the villa and look forward to catching up with everyone on the outside.”

It remains unclear which rule, or rules, he broke.

The semi-professional rugby player’s Instagram account suggested that he plans to enjoy a trip with friends following his brief sojourn in Majorca after he shared a news headline about his departure alongside a meme on his Stories.

He posted a screenshot from the Lord of the Rings film The Two Towers with the words “Looks like Makarska’s back on the menu boys” below a photo of himself in the Love Island Beach Hut.

Makarska is a popular holiday destination on the coast of Croatia, situated between Split and Dubrovnik.

Yesterday, a now-deleted Instagram post shared on his account, which is thought to have been run by Sherif’s friends and family during his stint in the villa, said that Sherif had “sadly” left the villa and claimed that he would “still be appearing on our screens tonight.”

“Everyone on endz is beyond proud and excited to have him home,” the message continued.

But he was absent from Tuesday's episode, with Love Island viewers unhappy with show bosses for failing to provide a reason for Sherif’s departure.

Narrator Iain Sterling paraphrased the previous announcement given by ITV, telling viewers: “Earlier today following conversations with producers Sherif left the villa. But for the other islanders it’s another day in paradise.”

“Waited that whole episode to find out why Sherif got kicked out only to not be told!!” one disgruntled fan wrote on Twitter.

“So we are really investing every night of our Summer into this show for them to give us half a sentence about Sherif leaving and then moving on,” another said.

Love Island is on ITV2, tonight at 9pm
