Jim Carrey has been cleared over claims that he played a part in ex-girlfriend Cathriona White’s suicide.

The case against the Hollywood A-lister has been dropped after his lawyer proved that White had forged medical records to try and prove that he had given her a number of STDs during their relationship.

White’s mother and ex-husband had sued Carrey for contributing to her death, claiming that he gave her three sexually-transmitted diseases and had provided her with the drugs she overdosed on.

The actor’s attorney Raymond Boucher found that White had edited the information on a friend’s 2011 STD test to make it look like it belonged to her, before proceeding to try and blackmail Carrey.

The records were intended to prove that she had not had any STDs prior to her on-off relationship with Carrey, which lasted for three years.

Carrey claimed that between March and August 2013, White had threatened to ‘go public’ with claims that he had given her STDs unless she paid him ‘millions of dollars’.

Carrey filed a countersuit against White’s family last year, claiming that their legal action against him was an attempt to exploit him.

In a statement at the time, he said: “Unfortunately, I made the mistake three years ago of giving in and settling false claims made against me by Mr. Marchino [Miss White's lawyer], on behalf of Cat, as mounting a public defence is a very costly and painful process. At the time I felt Cat was being exploited by Marchino.

“Since this new case was filed, I have discovered the depth of deception behind those false claims, the kind of deception decent people fall for, because to us, such behaviour is unimaginable.

“I will not give in a second time to these same fraudulent charges initiated by Cat's husband in name but not substance Mark Burton, and her estranged mother.

“Nor am I responsible for what these desperate characters have inadvertently unearthed about the woman I adored. I was clearly blinded by my affection.

“Regardless, I will hold a place of empathy, and forgiveness for Cat and continue to focus on the many blessings in this life (sic).”
