Katherine Jenkins and Vera Lynn to release We'll Meet Again duet to raise money for NHS

Katherine Jenkins and Dame Vera Lynn have teamed up to re-release wartime classic We’ll Meet Again during the coronavirus crisis.

The news comes after Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan said only yesterday that the duo should re-release the song.

Announcing the news on today's episode of the breakfast show, Jenkins, 39, said: “The single is going to be released on [Saturday] April 11, all proceeds will be going to the NHS charities together, which will help provide food, mental health, car parking for staff working on the front line.

"It's amazing to be working with Dame Vera Lynn who invited me to do a duet a few years ago."

Originally released in 1939, the song by Lynn, 103, has seen a surge of popularity after the lyrics were referenced by the Queen in her address to the nation on Sunday.

Spotify noted that Lynn's song "more than tripled in streams" in comparison to data taken on March 29.

Jenkins has a history of performing the beloved track, previously duetting with Lynn for the D-Day anniversary in 2017.

She is also currently holding concerts from her very own living room for quarantined audiences.

The pair are not the only musicians to release charity tracks during the coronavirus crisis.

U2’s Bono released Let Your Love Be Known on Saint Patrick’s Day this year, after being inspired by watching Italian residents on lockdown.

Jack Savoretti has also co-written his first Italian-language song Andra Tutto Bene with Italian fans on Instagram, giving money raised to an Italian hospital severely hit by Covid-19.
