Girl group Little Mix said X Factor needs to go on hiatus as it has become too "predictable".

The four piece, made up of Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Perrie Edwards and Jade Thirwall, found fame on the ITV reality show after winning in 2011.

But the girls believe the show has lost its spark and would benefit from a TV break.

"I think The X Factor is a brilliant show, but it has [been on] every year and maybe people will appreciate it more," Thirlwall told Digital Spy.

"Like, you know when you split up with someone and then you get back with them and it's even better?"

Nelson agreed, adding: "It's getting a bit predictable. You kind of know what's going to happen. Simon's going to go [raises hand], 'Give me another song', and all that.

"I feel like I literally know what's going to happen next. It's like watching a film you've seen 10 times."

Their comments come days after X Factor producer Richard Holloway said the talent show “will have a finite life span”. He continued: “But I think you then rest it, then you bring it back."

Former judge Louis Walsh recently revealed that Simon Cowell has phoned him for advice on how to improve the show's dwindling viewing figures.

“I spent an hour on the phone with him,” he told the Daily Star on Sunday. “But that’s not unusual. We often talk about the show. If I can help, I will.

“I think the ratings will improve during the live shows, they always do. I still watch every show.

“They have to find a credible winner this year. I expect Simon will roll out the big guns during the live episodes.

"The big stars still line up to be on this show.”
