Stephanie Davis and Jeremy McConnell have explained the reason behind their ‘split’ during their first joint interview since leaving Celebrity Big Brother.

The pair were scheduled to appear on Loose Women on Monday but pulled out after telling fans that they had split up.

Davis, 22, released a statement saying she needed to "get [her] head together" while McConnell, 27, said the “pressure of the relationship was just too much”.

But the pair confirmed that they are very much an item and explained that a miscommunication led to the temporary break.

Speaking about last weekend’s drama on Friday’s Loose Women, McConnell said: “We came out of the house [and] the press are everywhere which is understandable. I’m dealing with my PA appearances [and] Steph has her own thing and commitments. That night I was in Edinburgh and she was in Liverpool and went out for a few drinks.”

Davis continued: “I said ‘I can’t do this anymore’ but meaning us being apart and so busy and all the press trying to sell stories. It was all getting on top of me. We’re tired we’ve not stopped. He took it as if I ended with him. I was having a Bridget jones moment.”

The pair were criticised for cancelling their original Loose Women appearance and This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield said he was “sick to death” of them.

McConnell acknowledged the comments, saying: “If I was looking at that from the outside I’d say ‘what a bunch of muppets’.”

Speaking about why he fell for her, McConnell said: “Scousers and Irish people have a common bond.”

The pair were given a grilling by Katie Price who got them to confirm that they are moving in together and planning to get married.
