The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have finally announced the name of their third child – and fans are asking if they were inspired by an X Factor judge.

The royal couple revealed they have named their son Louis Arthur Charles, who will be known as His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge, four days after Kate Middleton gave birth.

Louis Walsh’s name was soon bandied about as Twitter users shared memes and pictures of the music manager, claiming he will be “thrilled” to learn he inspired the Prince’s name.

One user tweeted: “Can’t believe William and Kate named the royal baby after Louis Walsh.”

Another wrote: “Louis Walsh is ovet the moon as Prince is named after him.”

A third joked: “Apparently the Duchess has always been a big @TheXFactor fan and so has named the baby Prince as a Homage to Louis Walsh! #royalbaby #royalbabyname.”

But One Direction fans were convinced the royal couple were inspired by Louis Tomlinson, with many declaring the “United Kingdom now has two princes named Louis”.

Others were close to tears on realising how both Tomlinson and the new Prince have sisters called Charlotte.

Others joked that the new royal had been named after Louis Theroux and Jungle Book character King Louis, but the name is clearly in honour of Lord Louis Mountbatten.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge ended days of speculation on Friday when they revealed the name of their newborn, who was born at the Lindo Wing at St Mary's Hospital on St George's Day, weighing 8lb 7oz.

Prince Louis: The royal baby’s name has been announced

Kensington Palace announced the name in a statement that read: “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their son Louis Arthur Charles.

“The baby will be known as His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge.”

Arthur had been the bookmakers favourite before Albert had its odds slashed after a page royal spotters believed had been reserved for a Prince Albert on the family’s official site showed the message “Access denied”.
