Love Island’s Jessica Shears and Dom Lever have been accused of getting engaged in a bid to stay famous.

The couple announced they are set to tie the knot three months after meeting on the ITV2 reality show.

Lever filled their London apartment with flowers before getting down on one knee to pop the question.

Speaking about the romantic moment, Shears told OK!: “It happened the night before the TV Choice Awards. We were staying in a lovely apartment in London. Dom filled it with flowers and had got us a bottle of champagne.

“I was grinning like a Cheshire Cat when Dom got down on one knee – he said afterwards that he had never seen me smile like that!”

But fans of the show failed to share Shear’s excitement, with one branding it a “joke” and another deeming it “embarrassing”.

Others couldn’t resist bringing up rumours of Shears’ alleged night with fellow Love Islander Mike Thalassitis.

One commented: “Saw it and couldn't believe It!!! #muggymike must be laughing at this...”

Another posted: “How f****** ridiculous and to announce it through a magazine... clearly not genuine.”

A third wrote: “Stop dragging out your 5 minutes of fame. Pathetic!”

The news came days after the couple revealed they have moved in together. Lever made the announcement on Instagram with a picture of himself and Shears posing outside their new house.

He captioned the shot: “So yesterday me and @jessica_rose_uk moved in together and words cannot describe how happy this girl makes me. Clearly neither of us were ready for this photo.”
