Michelle Williams ‘being paid less than Mark Wahlberg’ for All The Money in the World branded ‘unacceptable’ as Jessica Chastain joins backlash

Michelle Williams was reportedly paid significantly less than Mark Wahlberg during reshoots for Ridley Scott’s All The Money in the World.

The John Paul Getty kidnapping drama was reshot in a matter of days after Kevin Spacey was hastily replaced by Christopher Plummer following allegations of sexual misconduct.

According to reports in USA Today and the Washington Post, Wahlberg negotiated a $1.5 million (£1 million) pay packet for the additional days, despite Scott claiming “everyone did it for nothing”.

Williams was reportedly paid $80 (£60) per day totalling less than $1,000 (£740) which works out as less than one per cent of Wahlberg’s earnings.

The report sparked a backlash with Mia Farrow branding the alleged findings “outrageously unfair” while Judd Apatow called them “messed up”.

Jessica Chastain also waded in, tweeting: “Please go see Michelle's performance in All The Money in The World. She’s a brilliant Oscar nominated Golden Globe winning actress. She has been in the industry for 20 yrs. She deserves more than 1% of her male costar’s salary.”

Campaigner Melissa Silverstein used the hashtag “#payMichelle” writing: “I started this last night and now it has been confirmed by others. Michelle Williams paid under 1,000 and Mark Wahlberg paid 1.5m.

“Williams was told they were all donating their time for the reshoots. THIS IS AN EGREGIOUS GENDER PAY GAP. #paymichelle.”

The pay disparity comes amid the Hollywood sex scandal following the allegations levelled against disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein.

The news rocked the entertainment industry and saw all but three female stars wear black to the Golden Globes in solidarity with the Time’s Up movement against sexual harassment.
