One Direction fans have started a Twitter campaign to get song No Control released as a single.

The boy’s fandom – known as directioners – are demanding that the song be released as a DIY single after only two tracks – Steal My Girl and Night Changes – have been released since the band’s album FOUR came out last November.

The campaign was started by die hard directioner Anna who on her Tumblr wrote: "Since this fandom is a black hole nowadays with no light at the end of the tunnel, I want to make a wish.

"I would like this fandom to gather together for a project, the project is releasing No control as the first One Direction DYI single.”

The hashtags #NoControl and #WeWantNoControlAsASingle soon started to trend as fellow fans agreed that the song has not received the “recognition [it] should have had”.

Sunday May 17 is the chosen day of promotion and fans are being encouraged to call local radio stations to request the song.

Louis Tomlinson praised the support of the band's fans, writing: "This is soooo incredible guys ! Another example of how good you are to us !!"

The fandom has suffered a series of blows in recent weeks. First Malik announced the news that he was quitting the band, then Tomlinson became embroiled in a feud with Naughty Boy over Malik's friendship with the music producer, and earlier this week it was rumoured that Niall Horan could be the next member to quit.
