Peter Kay asks fans to help remake Amarillo video for Big Night In charity special

Peter Kay has asked fans to join him in recreating his memorable music video for (Is This The Way To Amarillo) ahead of the Big Night In charity telethon.

The comedian, 46, is set to remake the 2005 Comic Relief video which saw him lipsyncing along to the Tony Christie track while marching through a series of weird and wonderful landscapes.

He was joined in the original clip by a string of famous faces including Phoenix Nights co-star Paddy McGuinness, Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor, Shaun Ryder and Christie himself.

Ahead of the BBC’s Big Night In event, which sees Comic Relief and Children In Night join forces for the first time to raise funds for the coronavirus relief effort, a post on Kay’s official Facebook page invited members of the public to get involved in remaking the famous video.

“Peter is recreating his iconic Comic Relief music video to Tony Christie’s smash hit, (Is This The Way To) Amarillo and this time he wants to include you!” the post read.

“All in aid of the BBC’s Big Night In, Peter wants you stomping along to the original track to show your support for the night of fundraising.

Fans wishing to take part should “film themselves marching and dancing to the original track (filmed landscape)” and “upload the footage onto social media, tagging the clip with #BigNightInAmarillo.”

The Big Night In will mark Kay’s first major television appearance since 2017, when he took part in the We Are Manchester concert after the Manchester Arena bombing.

Other stars appearing during the telethon include Catherine Tate and Gary Barlow.

Kay recently brought back his much-loved sitcom Car Share for a special audio-only episode, intended to lift fans’ spirits “in an effort to cheer people.”

The one-off episode debuted earlier this month and is available to listen to on BBC iPlayer.

The Big Night In airs on April 23 from 7pm on BBC One.
