First there was Donald Trump – and now Piers Morgan is setting his sights on a political career.

The Good Morning Britain presenter, 52, has kicked off his bid to become the next UK Prime Minister.

Morgan tweeted a picture of himself outside 10 Downing Street with the hashtag “PMforPM”.

He posted: “Come on Britain, ignore @susannareid100's grimace, you know it makes sense... #PMforPM.”

People struggled to match Morgan’s enthusiasm with one claiming that they would rather “s*** in my kettle and make tea” than see Morgan running the country.

Another tweeted: “I don't think you'd even get a vote mate.”

Others were keen on the idea of Morgan in government with one tweeting: “I think it depends on the party Piers. If we ran a presidential system, you'd be an interesting candidate.”

Another wrote simply: “Got my vote.”

It is not the first time Morgan has joked about running for Prime Minister. In November he told Digital Spy that the opportunity was “obviously looming large” in the wake of Mr Trump winning the US Presidential election.

He said: “Now we've seen that people who have appeared on The Apprentice can run countries, I'm beginning to think why not?

“I'm going to get there before Lord Sugar! I'm three to one! I'm the fourth favourite to be Prime Minister.

“It's the obvious natural step! It's just the pay cut will have to be dealt with!”
