Rey to be added to Star Wars Monopoly after pressure from fans

Star Wars character Rey will be added to Hasbro’s new Monopoly game after pressure from fans.

The games company has released a statement confirming that they will re-issue the Force Awakens edition of the game to include Daisy Ridley’s character.

After angry customers flagged that the game only contained male characters, despite the fact that Rey is one of the central figures of the film, the company tweeted:

“We love your passion for Rey, and are happy to share that we will be including her in the Monopoly: Star Wars game, available later this year.”

Attempting to explain the surprising omission, the company posted a statement claiming that they were trying to avoid ‘spoilers’.

They said: “The Star Wars: Monopoly game was released in September, months before the movie’s release, and Rey was not included to avoid revealing a key plot line that she takes on Kylo Ren and joins the Rebel Alliance.

“Fans will see more Rey product hitting store shelves this month, including 6-inch and 12-inch Rey action figures.

“We are thrilled with the popularity of this compelling character and will continue to look for ways to showcase Rey across all of our product lines.”
