Richard Gere is set to become a father again at 69 with his 35-year-old wife Alejandra Silva, the couple have revealed.

The Shall We Dance actor is gearing up to welcome his first child with the Spanish activist.

Silva shared an image of the Dalai Lama “blessing” her bump alongside Gere.

She wrote: “A very special moment just a few minutes ago... Getting blessings for our precious to come.. we couldn’t say it before telling HH Dalai Lama #dalailama#richardgere #alejandragere #love.”

The couple were flooded with support from fans sending their “love and blessings.”

Gere is a Tibetan Buddhist and long-time supporter of the Dalai Lama.

He was previously married to supermodel Cindy Crawford from 1991 to 1995 and actress Carey Lowell from 2002-2016, with whom he has 18-year-old son Homer.

Silva has a five-year old son from a previous marriage.

Gere tied the knot with Silva after four years together in an Indian-inspired ceremony at Gere's ranch outside of New York earlier this year.

The couple arrived together at the ceremony in a tuk-tuk.

In an interview with Hello! magazine, Gere said: "I'm the happiest man in the universe.

"How could I not be? I'm married to a beautiful woman who is smart, sensitive, committed to helping people, who's fun, patient, who knows how to forgive, who's a great cook - and who makes the best salads in the world.

"Alejandra meditates, she's a vegetarian, a great mother, has the touch of an angel and she's also Spanish - the land of kings and queens, of Cervantes and Bunuel. You can't get any better than that."
