Ryan Reynolds paid tribute to his wife Blake Lively at the Deadpool 2 premiere, describing being “Mr Lively” as “the best gig”.

The Canadian actor told reporters that he has “no problem” with being called Mr Lively, after a rival film cast jokingly called him by his wife’s name in a promo video.

Reynolds told Entertainment Tonight: “Oh, I'm Mr. Lively 24/7.

"And I'm happy about it. It's great. [It's the] best gig.”

The couple posed for pictures on the carpet in New York on Monday evening, with Lively looking stunning in a sparkly black gown complete with a dark red sash around the waist as a nod to her husband's character's costume.

In a promo for upcoming film Book Club, the stars of the film - including Diane Keaton and Jane Fonda – took aim at Reynolds and Deadpool 2, which is released on the same day, by calling him Mr Lively.

Reynolds, 41, married the Gossip Girl actress – who played Serena van der Woodsen in the hit series – in 2012.

They have two children together, three-year-old James and one-year-old Ines.

Deadpool 2 also stars Josh Brolin, Morena Baccarin and Zazie Beetz. Reynolds has been busy promoting the sequel and recently got into character to perform interpretative dance in a pair of heels alongside fellow Canadian Celine Dion.

He also teamed up with David Beckham to apologise with milk and cookies, helium balloons and a Mariachi band for mocking his voice in the first film.

Deadpool 2 is in cinemas nationwide now.
