Sam Faiers has spoken out about how her dad nearly missed fellow reality star Billie’s wedding after taking a sleeping pill before the flight, after previous reports claimed that he had been “too drunk” to board.

Her step-father Dave was unable to travel on his booked flight after taking the tablet and having “a few drinks” to quell his fear of flying, Sam revealed, prompting the wedding party to worry that he wouldn’t make it in time for the lavish celebrations.

Speaking on the Heart Breakfast show this morning, the Mummy Diaries star said: “My dad got marched off the flight. He took a sleeping tablet. He didn’t even make the flight.

“He hates flying. He had a sleeping tablet and a few drinks. And he didn’t even make the flight. They were like, he can’t travel and it couldn’t have got any worse.

Billie, 28, then revealed that she had assumed that “it was a wind up” when she received the news, telling presenters Jamie Theakston and Lucy Horobin: “When we got that phone call we thought it was a wind up. We thought surely not, the father of the bride.”

“And it’s not like you can jump on a quick flight to Spain,” Sam continued. “It’s a scheduled flight. We were worried he was gonna miss it [sic].”

“There were nearly 100 of us and we did have a really good time and you know, I think naturally 100 people when you get together… we were a little bit loud but there was certainly no rudeness,” she said.

“A lot of stuff that was in the press wasn’t true. But we did have a good time.”

“On all the big occasions we had our own areas so we didn’t interrupt any other guests or honeymooners,” Sam added.

“I think it was more when we gathered round the pool, or in the buggies going from A to B. It was probably the biggest wedding the Maldives ever had.”

Billie’s wedding extravaganza will feature in a forthcoming episode of The Mummy Diaries on ITVBe.

Heart Breakfast with Jamie and Lucy airs weekdays from 6am to 9am.
