Holly Willoughby has been accused of trying to steal the limelight from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on their wedding day.

Willoughby celebrated the royal nuptials by digging out her wedding dress as she partied at her sister’s wedding-themed 40th birthday bash.

She posted a picture of herself, her sister Kelly and their mum Lynne all wearing bridal gowns from their special days.

She captioned the image: “So it’s the Royal wedding, my sisters 40th and my mums 70th birthday party at the willoughby residence today!!!! ... I blame you @ladywilloughby for the dress code!!!! #whynot #happiness #love.”

She uploaded another of herself dancing in her dress and a third of her raising a glass of champagne to the “beautiful” new Duchess.

But some were outraged and accused Willoughby of attempting to make the day about her.

One user commented: “I’ve always loved holly ... until she went and did this !!!! Selfish.”

Another posted: “Why today holly always you you you not today.”

A third wrote: “Trying to get the limelight from Meghan (sic).”

One user also made a dig at Willoughby’s This Morning co-star Phillip Schofield who was presenting the coverage with Julie Etchingham on ITV. They wrote: “It’s bad enough that Holly Willoughby is on TV all the time that we have to have her thrown in our faces at the weekend too, with the wedding dress & [Schofield] had to mention her when he was broadcasting the royal wedding too.”

Others rushed to defend the TV star with many branding the trolls “jealous” and warning Willoughby not to listen to the “bullies”.

A host of celebs toasted the newlyweds as they tied the knot at St George’s Chapel in Windsor on Saturday afternoon.

Adele posted a selfie in a fascinator while Emma Bunton posted a picture of herself in a veil.

Victoria and David Beckham, George and Amal Clooney, James Corden and Oprah Winfrey were among a handful of famous faces who were invited to the ceremony.

Others included Idris Elba, Tom Hardy and his wife Charlotte Riley, James Haskell and his partner Chloe Madeley, Sir Elton John and David Furnish, and Carey Mulligan and her husband Marcus Mumford.
