Simon Cowell is a “d**k”, according to Christina Aguilera.

The singer, who is currently a mentor on The Voice, has accused the judge of American Idol and X Factor of being needlessly mean to contestants.

Aguilera admitted she does not watch rival reality shows, but had seen glimpses of Cowell's trademark cutting remarks in commercials for American Idol.

She said: "Man, that"s not what it"s about! I didn"t want to treat people like that. We don"t have to knock people down."

Aguilera, who first appeared on TV aged eight as a contestant on Star Search, said she had to be tough to survive in the music business. "It"s hard being such a powerful woman in the business," she said. "I"m known for not always being warm and fuzzy, because you"ll just get bulldozed over."
