Music legend Stevie Wonder has compared voting for Donald Trump to asking him to drive someone to a hospital in an emergency.

Wonder, 66, made the comment after performing in a Get Out The Vote concert for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

The Superstition singer encouraged people to vote for Clinton because she is an “experienced person of the government” and knows how to have “respect and love for all people”.

When asked by a music critic why he chose to perform at Clinton’s concert, Wonder replied: “My youngest child is one-year-old. She is a junior Millennial. So I’m looking at the future.

“And I’ll give you a point of reference. As much as you have great love for me and you think I’m funny and la la la la la and I make you laugh and all that, if you had an emergency situation and needed to go to the hospital, and you had to get there right away, would you want me driving your car?"

The critic responded: "No. You wouldn't be on top of my list."

Wonder responded: "Exactly. Because I’m not an experienced driver, right? So my belief is that Hillary is an experienced person of the government, and she has spent 30 years with a commitment.

“Not to mention that her parents taught her in a kinder way, to have respect and love for all people. That’s the person I want to govern, to be the leader of this nation."

Wonder is the latest in a long line of celebrities to endorse Clinton.

Katy Perry stripped naked at a polling station to encourage the US public to vote for her while Madonna promised to give sexual favours to anyone who votes for Clinton.

US director Joss Whedon rallied a group of stars to tell people to vote for Clinton over Trump in a Save the Day video.

Whedon promised fans that Mark Ruffalo will go full frontal in his next film if Clinton wins the race to the White House.

Lady Gaga praised Clinton for being "made of steel" as she performed at the candidate's final rally ahead of the polls today.

“No matter how absurd and mean [Trump] became, she smiled bravely and she continued on,” Gaga said.
